The third citizen survey on the AVV model project will start on November 20th, 2025 to improve public transport in Mering and the surrounding area.
AVV model project: Citizen survey for better public transport started!
The Aichach-Friedberg district will receive significant funding in the coming years as a model project for local public transport. The Federal Ministry for Digitalization and Transport (BMDV) has selected the project, known as AVV. With funding amounting to 28.65 million euros provided by the federal government, public transport in Augsburg as well as in the districts of Augsburg, Aichach-Friedberg and Dillingen a.d.Donau is to be specifically improved between 2023 and 2025.
In order to better understand the needs of the population, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization IAO is conducting the last of three online surveys from November 5th to November 30th, 2025. The aim is to find out which mobility offers are important to citizens and which measures they prefer. This feedback should be incorporated into the implementation of the AVV project.
Promoting public transport
The BMDV's support was aimed at increasing the attractiveness of public transport and reducing CO2 emissions in the transport sector. The funding guideline “Model projects to strengthen public transport” enables the realization of innovative concepts. This includes the introduction of flexible on-demand transport, the creation of mobility stations and improving accessibility in public transport.
In addition, digital and intermodal mobility platforms are required to better network different mobility offerings. Such measures help ensure that public transport also offers attractive solutions for rural regions. The scientific support of the projects is intended to analyze their CO2 reduction potential and make effective “best practices” transferable to other cities and regions.
Background and more
The first programs to strengthen public transport received financial support as part of the first funding call in mid-2022. A total of around 200 million euros was made available for 12 projects. The second call for funding began at the beginning of 2023 and focuses on a further 7 model projects that are to be funded with around 120 million euros by the end of 2025. The focus here is on rural areas.
A networked transport system that responds to the different mobility needs of citizens is a central goal of the initiative. The measures under the AVV are intended to help increase the attractiveness of public transport and at the same time promote environmentally friendly alternatives in the transport sector. Further information about the funding concept can be found on the BMDV and BALM websites.
