Meyer highlighted the courage of the people who fought for the end of the GDR 35 years ago. He emphasized that democracy cannot be taken for granted and that it is important to actively live and protect it. Schmidt, on the other hand, drew parallels to the current political situation in East Germany and stimulated thought.

The event was not only a political meeting, but also a cultural event. Students from the Franz Grothe Music School provided the musical accompaniment to the ceremony under the direction of Cornelia Kick and Franz Nestler. Their performances added to the festive mood and underlined the significance of the occasion.
