Naturalization in Weiden: A celebration of diversity and belonging
An important event was celebrated in Weiden on Tuesday evening: the first naturalization reception in the New Town Hall. The mayor welcomed the new citizens with warm words and congratulated them on their decision to acquire German citizenship. "Today is your evening and I would like to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart. You said yes to Germany and said yes to Weiden," he said, creating a festive atmosphere.
The event offered the new citizens the opportunity to celebrate their successes and exchange ideas with other people from different cultures. The mayor emphasized that Weiden is a city that values diversity and tolerance. “Germany is now home to people from all over the world and in Weiden we experience every day how this diversity enriches our lives and our culture,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of respectful cooperation.
Appreciation of cultural identity
Susanne Reinhardt, the city's integration officer, also spoke to those present. She emphasized that acquiring German citizenship does not mean giving up one's own cultural identity. "You have had German citizenship for some time now, but that does not mean you lose your cultural identity as a Syrian, as an Iraqi or as a Ukrainian. You can and should keep and maintain this identity," she said, encouraging the new citizens to value their roots.
A highlight of the evening was the joint singing of the national anthem, which symbolized the solidarity with the Federal Republic of Germany. The reception was accompanied musically by the group “The Happy Disharmonists”, who contributed to the festive atmosphere with their sounds. The event was not only a celebratory occasion, but also a sign of the openness and cohesion in the city of Weiden.
