Double gymnasium in Tirschenreuth: A milestone for education and sport
A significant construction project is currently being pushed forward in Tirschenreuth, which will shape the city's future educational landscape. The new double gymnasium for the middle school is not only an architectural project, but also a step into the future of the school infrastructure. Mayor Franz Stahl emphasized at a press event that this project plays a central role in the comprehensive renovation of the middle school and is of great importance for securing the educational location.
The construction of the gym began with the demolition of the so-called “Red House”, which took place on March 31, 2023. A modern gymnasium will now be built at this location, which will also be available to local clubs. The original plan was different, but the city opted for a dual gym to better meet the needs of the community.
Current status of construction work
Extensive civil engineering work was carried out from March to August 2023, which posed some challenges due to the special ground conditions and topography of the area. This work has now been completed and the next steps are already being planned. The shell construction work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024, followed by roof sealing and window installation work in the social wing.
However, the construction work has not been without delays. Mayor Stahl informed that the gymnasium is not expected to be completed until the end of 2025. These delays are due to complex site conditions that required careful planning and execution.
The new building will have two floors. Parking spaces for 23 cars and 60 bicycles are provided on the ground floor, while the gym and various function rooms will be located on the upper floor. The dimensions of the new building are impressive: 12 meters high, 32 meters wide and 38 meters long.
After the gymnasium is completed, further construction phases are planned that affect the entire school structure. This includes the demolition of the old gymnasium and the construction of a new building for all-day care as well as the general renovation of adjacent buildings.
Finally, Mayor Stahl expressed his thanks to everyone involved for the work they had done and wished the project to continue to be accident-free. With this project, the city of Tirschenreuth shows that it is investing in the future of its educational institutions and taking the needs of the community seriously.
