Art and culture weeks in Wackersdorf: From chainsaws to concerts

The community of Wackersdorf becomes a venue for art and culture in October. This year's art and culture weeks begin with an exciting opening ceremony on Friday, October 4th. The event promises an exciting program that will captivate visitors. Highlights include the impressive chainsaw carvers Norbert Lehner and Markus Gietl as well as the rousing soul band Tanquoray.

The chainsaw carvers will present their works of art in the Multi-Generation House (MGH). This art form, which involves using a chainsaw to create wooden sculptures, is both fascinating and loud. The artists show how impressive figures can be created from a simple block of wood. The exhibition is accessible during regular MGH hours through October 27, but the live demonstration will only take place on opening night. Visitors can watch the artists at work and be inspired by their creativity.

Musical highlights and other events

The opening evening will be accompanied musically by the soul band Tanquoray, who will perform their current album “Soulicana”. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and admission is free, but capacity at MGH is limited. The first Wackersdorf “Acoustic Night” follows on Saturday, where numerous musicians from the region are expected. Among them is Felix Gleixner, known from the TV casting “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. The performances will take place unplugged, i.e. without much technical amplification, which makes the music particularly authentic.

The Acoustic Night will be hosted by Tom Neger, who will perform with his band “Nothing Else Better”. In addition to him, other talented musicians such as Michael Schlaffer and Lena Rötzer will also take the stage. A special highlight of the evening will be a percussion session, in which the drummers will drum on anything that is not considered an instrument. This creative approach promises an entertaining evening for all music lovers.

On Sunday, the first weekend of the art and culture weeks will conclude with an adventure hike for children and families. The hike leads from the large Murner See car park to the Upper Palatinate Fairy Tale Garden and focuses on the stories of the famous fairy tale collector Franz-Xaver von Schönwerth. Registration is required to attend this child-friendly event. The art and culture weeks offer a varied program until October 27th, which includes guest performances by Altneihauser Feierwehrkapell'n and the music cabaret artist Han's Klaffl.

Christoph Peters, the head of the Wackersdorf BMW plant, has taken over the patronage of this series of events. For more information and the full program, those interested can visit the link in the menu bar.
