Two years of Nittenau Senior Citizens' Advisory Council: A look back at successes and events

Nittenau's senior citizens' advisory board recently celebrated its two-year anniversary and can look back on an impressive time. Since the election in August 2022, the group has actively advocated for the concerns of the older generation under the leadership of Dorit Schwarzfischer, the first female chairwoman. She is supported by Erika Rettinghausen and a dedicated team made up of various members.

The members of the seniors' advisory board set themselves high goals from the start. Not only did they want to listen to the concerns of older citizens, but they also wanted to organize regular events to promote exchange. Looking back, it can be said that they achieved these goals with flying colors.

Diverse events and activities

The term began with a senior cinema in September 2022, which took place in collaboration with the Nittenau cinema center. There will be another senior cinema on September 18, 2024, where participants will be welcomed with a glass of champagne and a pretzel. The film “Alles Fifty Fifty” promises an entertaining comedy about a chaotic family that comes closer together on vacation. The entrance fee is 7.50 euros and registration is required.

Over the last two years, numerous activities have been offered, including tours of the city museum and interesting lectures on topics such as “Becoming fearless”. Another highlight was the “Seniors Ask the Mayor” event, which will take place again this year. The exchange is planned for November 13, 2024 in the town hall.

In addition, a seniors' afternoon is organized in the Burglengenfeld town hall, to which all seniors aged 60 and over are invited. The event will take place on October 12, 2024 and a bus will be provided for travel. Departure times have already been set and registration is required by September 20th.

Further events followed in 2023, including Christmas parties, film afternoons and carnival parties. In order to strengthen contact with seniors in the various districts, the meetings were moved to local inns, which led to a high number of participants. Another meeting is planned for September 19, 2024 at the Gasthaus Fuchs in Neuhaus.

The seniors' advisory board has also launched cross-generational events that were organized in collaboration with the Nittenau Youth Parliament. These initiatives, such as the joint sale of coffee and cake, show the desire to strengthen the community.

The term of office of the senior citizens' advisory board runs until 2026, and the members have big plans. This year, sporting activities will also be offered, including social bowling sessions at the Landgasthof Schmidbauer. There will also be a theater performance by the local and traditional costume association “D’Regentaler”, for which reduced tickets are available for seniors.

The committed work of the Senior Citizens' Advisory Board shows how important it is to take the needs and wishes of the older generation into account. The large number of events and the active participation of seniors demonstrate the success of this initiative.
