Elementary school students discover the city administration: a visit to the town hall
The Hans Scholl Elementary School recently went on an exciting trip to the town hall. The students from classes 4a, 4d and 4e came with their teachers Katrin Semmelmann, Christina Lorenz and Tessa Gorban to find out more about the city administration. The deputy mayor Josef Gruber took on the task of introducing the children to the various aspects of local administration.
The students had prepared well in advance and wrote down many questions on small pieces of paper. They were particularly curious about issues such as taxes and parking violations. Gruber explained to the children in an understandable way that even a mayor has to pay taxes and that parking in a disabled parking space without permission has consequences. The children were thrilled and asked many more questions, including why you can't build a roller coaster in your own garden.
Insights into city administration
During the visit, Gruber gave the students an overview of the city's history and the tasks of the various offices. He explained that the city administration is also responsible for equipping the schools, which was of particular interest to the students. An important topic was the playground, for which the children wanted new play equipment. The height of the sinks in the school toilets also caused lively discussions.
After the question and answer session, manager Wolfgang Weiß led the students through the town hall in small groups. The children were particularly impressed by the mayor's office and the building department, which was equipped with numerous file folders for the Hans Scholl elementary school. These insights into the working world of the city administration were very instructive for the students.
At the end of the visit, Josef Gruber presented the curious students with small gifts as a reminder of their day in the town hall. The event was a huge success and gave the children the opportunity to learn more about how their city works.
