What's new in garden water: radio meters are revolutionizing readings!
The water supply association for the district of Regensburg Süd has announced important changes to the reading of garden water meters. The reading date takes place on September 30th of each year. Starting this year, reading cards will no longer be sent. Instead, the meters are read via radio, which represents a modern and efficient solution. This was announced on September 8, 2025 [Thalmassing].
The meter readings of the garden water meters must be reported directly to the wastewater disposal association in Pfattertal at the address Aukofener Str. 17, 93098 Mintraching. If you have any questions, the association's employees are available on 09406/9410-0.
Technological development of water meters
Reading efficiency is significantly increased by installing digital water meters, also known as radio water meters. These modern devices have greatly advanced technologically and use electronic measurement methods and sensors to enable more precise measurements. In comparison to mechanical water meters, which often only offer selective and delayed data evaluations, radio-based data transmission enables immediate evaluation of consumption data [DVGW].
Molliné water meters are designed to be made of material suitable for drinking water and offer high precision. The smallest water withdrawals, such as those caused by dripping taps, are recorded and minimize the pressure loss regardless of the pipe dimension [Molline].
Security and privacy
Data protection and data security are of central importance for the effective operation of electronic water meters. The new water meter from GELSENWASSER AG, for example, uses TLS encryption to secure data transmission. This protects the data from external threats such as hacker attacks and data loss [DVGW].
The switch to digital systems also brings with it the need to make adjustments to operational processes. Automated meter reading and billing processes are necessary to further increase efficiency and improve service for consumers.
