Christmas visit to Regensburg: Thanks for lifesavers from the ILS!

On December 5, 2025, District Administrator Tanja Schweiger, Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer and Mayor Dr. Astrid Freudenstein the Integrated Control Center (ILS) in Regensburg. The reason for this visit was to express thanks to the employees for their valuable work in 2025. The ILS in Regensburg has distinguished itself through various innovations and is one of the first control centers in Bavaria to take part in a Bavaria-wide pilot test for the new training job “control center dispatcher for integrated control centers”. tegernheim.de reports.

This training initiative aims to develop uniform qualifications for control center staff. This year, two trainees were also hired at ILS for the first time. The ILS Regensburg has introduced a new 24-hour roster that will come into force on January 1, 2026. Ahead of this implementation, additional staff were hired and ready rooms were converted to further increase efficiency.

Innovations and services from ILS

The first responder app “Region of Life Savers” was also introduced in 2025. This app aims to quickly alert qualified first responders in the vicinity of cardiac arrest emergencies. In addition, the IVENA MANV system, a communication and feedback tool for major incidents, will be fully established at ILS Regensburg. This system makes it possible to control rescue in emergencies with a large number of injured people, reports ivena.de.

In the last 12 months, the ILS managed around 108,500 emergency service operations and around 9,300 fire service operations, providing care for a total of around 630,000 people. In addition, a pilot project for emergency response vehicles (REF) was successfully implemented to relieve the burden on ambulances in medical emergencies with a low probability of transport. The ILS employees continually work on future viability and securing skilled workers.

Technical backgrounds and networking

The Integrated Control Centers (ILS) in Bavaria were set up on the initiative of the Bavarian State Government and use modern information and communication technology to be able to react efficiently in an emergency. This state-of-the-art technical equipment of an ILS costs over 1 million euros and requires extensive installations, such as several kilometers of cable in the control center building. According to notruf112.bayern.de, the ILS are connected to each other via a secure data network (VPN) in order to enable the exchange of information if necessary and to bundle the alerting of the fire brigade and rescue services.

The current digital networking of the ILS and the constant development of the infrastructure are essential in order to quickly alert the best emergency services in an emergency and to support citizens effectively.
