Regensburg's new teachers: 55 candidates for a better future
In a ceremonial ceremony in Regensburg, 55 teacher candidates were officially introduced to their new profession. The event took place one day before the start of school at the Otto Schwerdt Middle School and was led by Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer. She was supported by school district director Clemens Sieber and other representatives of the school district.
The group is made up of 34 prospective primary school teachers, 18 middle school teachers and three specialist teachers. Of these, 22 will work in the city of Regensburg and 33 in the Regensburg district. The swearing-in marks the beginning of their careers in education, and the new teachers received a warm welcome into the community.
Important messages for new teachers
The school board directors emphasized the importance of respect and trust when dealing with students, parents and colleagues. Clemens Sieber encouraged the new teachers to take active action against extremism in schools. School district director Birgit Sandmann pointed out the challenges that the teacher candidates will face, such as preparing lessons independently and dealing with the students' individual problems. She emphasized that the teaching profession also brings with it many fulfilling moments that can lead to a high level of professional satisfaction.
The seminar leaders Andrea Nunberger and Dr. Christoph Neudert gave the candidates courage for the next two years of training and assured them that they would always receive support. The staff council chairmen Astrid Schels and Stefan Würdinger also offered their help and advised the new teachers to take care of themselves and lead a balanced life.
The oath of loyalty and the start of your professional life
Mayor Maltz-Schwarzfischer concluded the ceremony with the swearing in of the teachers, where they took the oath of loyalty to the Basic Law and the Constitution of the Free State of Bavaria. This is an important step as they will be considered revoked civil servants from September 9, 2024. After the ceremony, the new teachers headed to their assignment schools to attend their first service conference.
The city and district of Regensburg have committed to supporting the new teachers through various programs, such as youth social work in schools. These initiatives are intended to ensure that teachers are successful in their new roles and that students receive the best possible support.
