Citizens' Energy Prize Upper Palatinate 2026: 12,000 euros for climate protection projects!

On January 20, 2026, the Upper Palatinate Citizens' Energy Prize was launched to support innovative projects to promote the energy future. The competition, which offers prize money of 12,000 euros for the best ideas, warmly invites private individuals, clubs, schools, kindergartens and institutions of all generations to take part. This is intended to promote environmentally friendly measures, such as avoiding waste or plastic and the energy-efficient renovation of buildings. The application is made via an online form on the Bayernwerk website.

As Pielenhofen reports, projects by companies and commercial enterprises that pursue economic interests are not permitted. The focus is on raising awareness of environmental, climate and nature conservation. The projects are evaluated by an expert jury, whose composition can be viewed online. It is important to know that the application deadline for late documents transfers to the Citizens Energy Award for the following year.

Initiatives in Lower Bavaria

At the same time, Bayernwerk Netz GmbH, together with the government of Lower Bavaria, has been calling for the Lower Bavaria Citizens' Energy Prize for 14 years. This prize pursues a similar goal, namely to honor people and groups who are actively committed to climate and environmental protection. Here too, prize money totaling 12,000 euros will be distributed.

As Offenberg explains in detail, private individuals, associations and institutions can also participate here. The projects should focus on topics such as energy efficiency, environmental protection, waste prevention and responsible food handling. The application deadline for this award ends on March 25, 2026. Here, too, an expert jury will decide on the winners and the amount of prize money.
