Closure of the R20 in Piesenkofen: diversions from November 3, 2025!

From November 3rd, 2025, the R 20 district road in Piesenkofen will be completely closed for a total of six days until November 8th, 2025 due to asphalting work as part of the new bridge construction on Bajuwarenweg. According to obertraubling.de, diversions are signposted to keep traffic flowing despite the work.

The diversion route takes you via the R 20 Oberhinkofen and further via the R 4 Seedorf. From there, traffic takes the state road 2143 to the R 30 Wolkering and Gebelkofen, via which the R 12 and the state road 2615 in the direction of Obertraubling can be reached.

Impact on public transport

Transport operations will also be affected by the closure. The affected lines include RVV lines 20, 21, 21/24 and 38. Line 38 will be rerouted via Franz-Josef-Strauß-Allee and Burgweinting to the Obertraubling Kirche stop (platform 3), although the Unterisling, Scharmassing, Oberhinkofen, Piesenkofen Erlenring stops and other important stops cannot be served. Replacement stops for line 38 are available at Obertraubling Church, platforms 2 and 3 (Regensburger Straße).

Line 20 will use the same diversion route as line 38 and skip the same stops. Lines 21 and 21/24 are also affected and will be rerouted to Gebelkofen, with several stops, including Oberhinkofen and Piesenkofen Erlenring, not being served. In Obertraubling there are no transfer options between lines. Further information about the changes in bus traffic can be found on the Regensburger Verkehrsverbund website landkreis-regensburg.de.

Context to infrastructure projects

The current work in Piesenkofen is part of a larger framework of infrastructure measures that are taken into account in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan (BVWP) 2030. This central document of the federal transport infrastructure planning includes projects that are designed to last 10 to 15 years and include road, rail and waterway projects. According to bmv.de, the BVWP has a total volume of around 269.6 billion euros, with around 141.6 billion euros earmarked for maintaining the existing networks.

The measures are intended, among other things, to reduce congestion on federal highways and increase capacity in passenger and freight transport. The expansion of the rail network is also based on the principle of the Deutschland-Takt, which is intended to strengthen the attractiveness of the rail system.
