Traffic chaos at the weekend: A3 near Regensburg closed due to asphalt installation

Work on installing the noise protection surface on the A3 motorway near Regensburg will continue this weekend. The construction and project management made this decision this afternoon. The weather forecasts are promising.

From Friday evening, October 18, 2024, around 7:30 p.m. to Monday morning, October 21, 2024, around 5 a.m., there will be significant traffic restrictions on the A 3 between the Regensburg motorway junction and the Regensburg-Burgweinting junction. The Southern Bavaria motorway recommends avoiding unnecessary journeys.

Details about traffic restrictions

The reason for the restrictions is the installation of the noise protection covering. This is part of the six-lane expansion of the A 3, which began in February 2018. The final work was already carried out in three of four construction phases in September. The third construction phase includes the Nuremberg carriageway between the Regensburg-Burgweinting junction and the Regensburg motorway junction.

From Friday, October 18th, around 7:30 p.m., two lanes will be removed in the direction of Nuremberg between the Regensburg-Burgweinting junction and the Regensburg motorway junction. The remaining lane will be on the opposite lane and the maximum speed will be reduced to 60 km/h.

At the Regensburg motorway junction, crossings from the A 3 coming from Passau to the A 93 are closed. Road users coming from the east via the A3 must use alternative routes. This weekend, there are only two lanes available for the direction of Passau between the Regensburg motorway junction and the Regensburg-Burgweinting junction. There is also a maximum speed of 60 km/h and a ban on overtaking for trucks, buses and vehicles with trailers.

Completion of construction work

If the installation of the noise protection surface goes according to plan, the six-lane expansion of the A 3 between the Regensburg motorway junction and the Rosenhof junction will be largely completed by around 5 a.m. on October 21, 2024. Only a few remaining tasks remain to be done. Work on this infrastructure project began in February 2018.
