Subsoil investigations on Nordgaustraße: traffic restrictions in sight!

The city of Regensburg has started the subsoil investigations along Nordgaustraße. These measures last from January 19, 2026 to the beginning of March 2026 and focus on the area between the Brennesstrasse/Isarstrasse intersection and Amberger Strasse. The aim of these investigations is to gain geological insights for detailed planning of the expansion of Nordgaustraße. A total of 27 investigation points are planned, where vertical drilling up to 20 meters deep will be carried out.

These drillings are intended to determine the soil properties and stratification and to take soil samples. Once the work has been completed, the drill holes will be securely closed and filled again. In addition, ramming soundings are carried out to carry out further measurements of the soil properties. Temporary traffic restrictions are to be expected on Nordgaustrasse and the surrounding streets, with traffic being controlled using traffic lights in places where interventions in the flow of traffic are necessary. However, there are no plans for full closures.

Background of the project

The geological data obtained through these investigations form the basis for the construction of noise protection systems. Specifically planned are noise protection walls and a 399 meter long noise protection enclosure. Subsoil investigations for the new construction of the Sallern rain bridge and the reconstruction of the Lappersdorf roundabout are also planned for spring 2026. However, changes to schedules may occur due to external influences or weather conditions.

The overall project, which goes by the name “Nordspange Regensburg”, is being implemented in cooperation with the federal government, the Free State of Bavaria, the city of Regensburg, the Regensburg district and the Lappersdorf market. The aim of these comprehensive measures is to improve traffic conditions in the north of Regensburg and to create an efficient traffic axis. The building permit for this project was granted at the end of 2024 and planning resumed at the beginning of 2025.
