The city of Hemau has big plans to promote leisure opportunities for families and children. On September 25, 2025, it was announced that construction work on a new adventure playground would begin in late October 2025. This playground will take place on a spacious area of ​​around 3,200 square meters and is designed as part of a new urban recreation area between the folk festival square and the forest cemetery. The project is intended to cater not only to children without disabilities, but also to those with special needs, and is designed to be barrier-free and inclusive.

The new adventure playground will offer a variety of play equipment - around 35 in total. These include seesaws and rocking animals, a water play area, climbing tunnels, caves, trampolines and a ropes course. Seating and lying areas as well as a sun sail will provide pleasant places to retreat and shade.

Opening and future developments

The official opening of the adventure playground is planned for early summer 2026. On this occasion there will be a large children's party to accompany the opening. Mayor Herbert Tischhöfer has already presented the location of the new playground on hoarding banners at the Volksfestplatz in order to bring the project closer to the public.

After the opening, there will be a second construction phase that includes infrastructure and path work as well as climate protection measures in the Siebergraben area.
