The town of Hemau is looking for a new Christ child for the upcoming Christmas season. This tradition is being launched for the second time this year and the anticipation for the festive season is building. The Hemauer Christ Child will not only represent the city, but also fill people's hearts with Christmas joy.
Those interested in applying to become a Christ child have until November 17, 2024 to submit their documents. The city has designed the application conditions so that they are accessible to many. Anyone living in the community and at least twelve years old can apply, regardless of gender or identity. It is important that applicants enjoy public appearances and can approach other people openly.
Application process and selection
Applications can be sent to the town hall both by email and by post. In the application, those interested should briefly introduce themselves and explain why they would like to become the new Hemauer Christkind. Photos are also welcome to support the application. A jury consisting of the mayor and the city council parliamentary group speakers will examine the applications and select the Christ child. The decision will be announced in time for the first Advent.
The Hemauer Christ Child has the honorable task of spreading Christmas cheer. It will visit various events, including Advent celebrations, kindergartens and retirement homes. The highlight of the activities will be on December 21, 2024 at the Christmas market, where the Christ child will open the exhibition of Christmas letters and greet visitors. There will also be small gifts distributed to the children and available for photos.
As a small recognition for the effort, the Christ child receives ten Hemauer 10s, which can be redeemed in local shops. The city also provides a magnificent costume consisting of a white and gold star dress and matching headdress.
Last year, 17-year-old Leonie Riepl took on the role of Christ Child and represented the city with flying colors. She enthusiastically remembers her time as a Christ child and the joy she was able to bring to the children. Mayor Herbert Tischhöfer is optimistic and is looking forward to the new applications. He encourages anyone interested in the role to apply and become part of this beautiful tradition.
