District election 2026: How to vote correctly in the Neu-Ulm district!
The next district council election will take place in the Neu-Ulm district on March 8, 2026, which will be held as part of the general local elections in Bavaria. A total of 70 mandates are up for grabs, and the term of office of the newly elected district council begins on May 1, 2026. This body is responsible for crucial matters in the district, which underlines the importance of this election. As landkreis-nu.de informs, around 138,500 citizens are entitled to vote.
Voters have various options for voting. This includes variegation, in which votes can be distributed among applicants from different lists, and cumulation, in which up to three votes can be awarded to individual applicants. There is also the option of choosing people and choosing a list, in which an entire list can be accepted with a “list cross”. The identification of votes must be clear and the maximum number of votes must not be exceeded.
Preparation for the election
In order to optimally prepare citizens for the upcoming election, an interactive sample ballot paper will be available on the Neu-Ulm District Office homepage from mid-February 2026. This enables voters to familiarize themselves with the modalities of voting in advance. In addition, there will be no district election in March 2026, as Eva Treu was already elected in January 2024.
The distribution of seats in the district council is based on the calculation method according to Sainte-Laguё/Schepers, as stmi.bayern.de explains. The total number of votes for the constituency nominations is divided by odd numbers in order to allocate the seats to the nominations according to the highest division numbers. In the event of a tie, the larger number of votes or drawing lots decides on the allocation of a seat.
In an exemplary municipality with 7,000 inhabitants in which 20 municipal council seats are up for grabs, the valid votes could be distributed as follows: A party 20,554 votes, B party 8,712 votes, C party 8,270 votes, D voter group 9,177 votes and E voter group 789 votes. The seats would then be distributed as follows: A party 9 seats, B party 4 seats, C party 3 seats, D voter group 4 seats and E voter group no seats.
The district council election in the Neu-Ulm district is an important event that will have a lasting impact on the political landscape in the region. Further information on this topic is available on the websites of donaustauf.de, landkreis-nu.de and stmi.bayern.de.
