District election 2026: How to vote correctly in the Neu-Ulm district!
The district council elections will take place in the Neu-Ulm district on March 8, 2026, which will be held as part of the general local elections in Bavaria. Like the Neu-Ulm district website reported, a total of 70 mandates are to be awarded. These elections are of great importance because the district council decides on important matters for the district.
The term of office of the newly elected members is six years and begins on May 1, 2026. It is noteworthy that there will be no district election in March 2026, as the current district administrator Eva Treu was already elected in January 2024. Around 138,500 citizens are eligible to vote and can cast their votes.
Electoral modalities and voting
Voting is done through various methods that provide flexibility to voters. Common procedures include:
It should be noted that the maximum number of votes must not be exceeded and the identification must be clear. An interactive sample ballot paper will be available on the Neu-Ulm District Office homepage from mid-February 2026 to enable voters to make an informed decision.
Seat distribution procedure
The results of the elections will be distributed according to the Sainte-Laguë/Schepers calculation method. Like that Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior explains, the total votes of the constituency proposals are divided by odd numbers such as 1, 3, 5, 7 etc. to allocate the seats. In the case of equal claims to a seat, the greater number of votes of the person in question decides, and in the event of a tie, the decision is made by lot.
An example shows the distribution of seats in a hypothetical municipality with 7,000 residents. A total of 20 local council seats would be awarded there, based on 47,502 valid votes. The distribution could look like this:
| party | Number of votes | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| A party | 20,554 | 9 |
| B party | 8,712 | 4 |
| C party | 8,270 | 3 |
| D voter group | 9,177 | 4 |
| E-voter group | 789 | 0 |
