Preparatory work for SuedOstLink: TenneT informs Bernhardswald

TenneT GmbH provides information about the upcoming preparatory work for the SuedOstLink project. These begin on January 1, 2025 and end on December 31, 2025. The work will take place in the municipality of Bernhardswald.

Details about the SuedOstLink project

The SuedOstLink project includes a high-voltage direct current transmission line. This line consists of projects 5 and 5a. Project 5 runs between Wolmirstedt in Saxony-Anhalt and ISAR in Bavaria. Project 5a leads from Klein Rogahn in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to ISAR in Bavaria. The underground cable line is anchored in the Federal Requirements Plan Act. The project is currently in the approval process, the so-called plan approval.

Biological mapping and surveys are carried out in the defined route corridor. These serve to determine and expand the data base. In addition, wells, springs and ponds are measured, explored and monitored. “For mapping purposes, landscape and species groups are recorded in a defined area and recorded on so-called data maps.” This enables the habitats to be assessed with regard to their importance for the natural balance and species protection.

Carrying out the work

The work is carried out by companies commissioned by TenneT and third-party contractors. All people in the field receive a power of attorney for expulsion. For the work, agricultural, private and public paths must be accessed and driven on. In individual cases it may be necessary to enter private property. “As a rule, no damage or restrictions are caused.” If there is any damage to the land, this will be compensated by TenneT.

The authorization to carry out the preparatory work results from the Energy Industry Act. The mapping is carried out in coordination with the responsible nature conservation authorities. The timing of the mapping is based on the life cycles of the fauna and flora. “The duration of the individual mapping is species-specific and can also depend on weather conditions.”

Inspections and mapping

Inspections are necessary to check data and information. This work is carried out on foot. Both the target parcels and the access route are walked. Visual observations and survey work are carried out at springs and wells. Fish ponds are also being examined. “The mapping is usually carried out on foot, takes between 15 minutes and several hours and can sometimes be repeated several times.”

In addition, nesting tubes for the dormouse are laid out in forests and groves. Hand and net catches can be used to detect amphibians and dragonflies. “The deployment of decoy sticks is carried out in forests and trees in order to provide evidence of the presence of the wild cat if necessary.”
