Traffic chaos ahead: A3 expansion brings restrictions in September

The A3 motorway between Regensburg and Rosenhof is about to undergo a significant redesign. From Friday, September 13, 2024, the first section of the six-lane expansion will begin with the installation of a special noise protection surface. This work is necessary to increase road safety and comfort for drivers. The Southern Bavaria motorway has already warned in advance that there will be significant traffic restrictions during this time.

From Friday evening to Monday morning, traffic on the A3 will be severely affected. Drivers should be prepared that only one lane will be available in the direction of Passau, while speeds will be limited to 60 km/h. This means drivers have to allow more time to reach their destinations. The responsible authorities recommend, if possible, to avoid non-essential journeys.

Details about traffic restrictions

The restrictions also affect the Regensburg-Burgweinting junction. Here it is not possible to enter or exit in the direction of Passau. Drivers coming from Nuremberg and wanting to leave the A3 must use the Regensburg-Universität junction. For the driveway towards Passau there is a diversion via Landshuter Straße and Odessa-Ring to the Regensburg-Ost junction.

In the opposite direction, i.e. towards Nuremberg, there are only two lanes available this weekend. There is also a speed limit of 60 km/h and trucks and buses are not allowed to overtake. However, entries and exits at the junctions are still possible.

The work is heavily dependent on the weather. Therefore, a decision will be made on Thursday, September 12th as to whether the work can take place as planned or whether it must be postponed. The current weather forecast is published on the project website so that road users are always informed.

The further planned work on the noise protection surface is scheduled for the weekends in September and October. These also include, among other things, periods in which the motorway is only accessible to a limited extent in both directions. Detours will be announced in due course and maps will be available on the project website.

The project websites are available for anyone who needs more information about the expansion of the A3. There you will also find current traffic reports and information about diversions. The Autobahn GmbH of the Federal Southern Bavaria branch is responsible for carrying out the work and is available to answer any questions.
