Hutzabankerl”: New meeting places for neighbors in Neustadt create community

In today's world, when social interaction often falls by the wayside, the Forum Neustadt Plus e.V. association sets a remarkable example for more community. The “Hutzabankerl” initiative is intended to serve as a contact point for neighbors and strengthen the feeling of togetherness. These benches, which will be placed at various locations in the neighborhood, are intended not only to provide space to sit, but also to create space for conversations and encounters.

District Administrator Andreas Meier, who is also chairman of the association, remembers the tradition that such meeting places had in the past. “The Hutzabankerl used to be a place where people came together after work to exchange ideas and maintain relationships,” he explains. These memories are the impetus for the current project, which aims to make the neighborhood more vibrant again.

The concept of the Hutzabankerl

The idea behind the Hutzabankerl is simple but effective. The benches are made from regional wood and have an engraving that indicates their function as a meeting place. With dimensions of around 1,800 x 560 x 900 mm, they offer enough space for relaxed conversations. In order to get a bank, interested citizens only have to contribute ten percent of the total costs, around 40 euros. The rest is financed by LEADER funding and the association.

The initiative comes at a time when many people are looking for ways to restore social contacts that have been severely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. The benches should not only serve as places to sit, but also as places where neighbors can get to know each other and support each other. “We hope that many citizens will take part and that the Hutzabankerl will become an integral part of our neighborhood,” continued Meier.

Anyone interested can contact Forum Neustadt Plus e.V. by September 30, 2024 to find out more about the project. Contact is easy to make via email or telephone. The association is confident that this project will help revitalize the neighborhood and create new meeting places that strengthen a sense of community.
