Insight into history

On June 24, 2015, the Neumarkt parish church of St. Johannes was founded by the bishopGregor Maria Hankeceremoniously raised to the status of a cathedral. This title is given to churches of particular historical importance. The St. Johannes Minster is one of the first late Gothic hall churches in Germany. It was built as a civil church and served as a counterpart to the court church, which was reserved for the nobility.

The tour provides an insight into the 825-year history of the Neumarkt landmark. She clearly explains the numerous works of art in the church. The church's greatest treasure is a copy of the famous “Isenheim Altarpiece”. This copy ofMatthias Grünewaldis particularly honored here.
