Hall closures: Riede will remain closed for sports until January!
From then onDecember 15, 2025The multi-purpose hall in Rieden will remain untilJanuary 6, 2026closed for club sports. This measure is necessary to enable the construction and rehearsal dates of the local Rieden theater group. The Rieden market would like to thank the population for their understanding during this time.
But club sports are not only being affected in Rieden. The Heinz Schreiber Hall in Riede is already thereclosed immediatelybeen. This closure occurred due to water damage, the extent of which is currently unclear. A sign on the entrance door informs users of the closure. This hall, which serves both MTV Riede and school sports, can no longer be used.
Damage and consequences
Anja Lange, the chairwoman of MTV Riede, is shocked by the current situation. An expert commissioned by the insurance company has already inspected the hall and urgently recommended that it be closed to prevent further damage. The exact cause of the water damage is believed to be related to a carnival event at the end of February. The resilience of the hall floor is also questionable, which increases the urgency of the measures.
The mayor of the joint municipality, Anke Fahrenholz, informed the council, the sports club and the school. The upcoming renovation work in the Heinz-Schreiber-Halle is still unscheduled and the closure could last several months. Experts have a planning time ofsix to eight monthsrecommended. In the meantime, Anja Lange is planning to develop alternative concepts and has already asked neighboring gyms to ensure hall times for the first time.
The sports that are particularly affected by the closure are fitness, badminton, table tennis and handball. The MTV Riede also offers the administration support with clean-up or clearing work. This shows the club's commitment to remaining active despite the adverse circumstances.
The situation of sports facilities in Germany
The problem of sports facilities is not just a local issue. A current study commissioned by the KfW development bank has shown that many municipal swimming pools and sports halls in Germany urgently need to be renovated. 59% of the cities, municipalities and districts surveyed report a serious lack of investment in sports halls. This could also have an impact on the sports opportunities in Riede and the surrounding area.
In addition, it is predicted that around 16% of outdoor pools and 14% of indoor pools will have to close in the next three years if rapid investments are not made in the infrastructure. The German Association of Cities and Municipalities describes the current situation as a “dramatic development” and calls for urgent support from the federal and state governments. Without a major investment offensive, ensuring the availability of sports in many communities is at risk.
In view of these challenges, it is important for sports clubs to find innovative solutions and alternatives in order to continue to enable their members to receive club-related training. The preparations for the next few months are therefore not only important for Riede, but also reflect a nationwide problem.
