Frohnbergkirche: Renovation of water damage after years of problems

The Frohnberg Church has had to struggle with a serious problem in recent years: When it rained, the chancel and sacristy were regularly flooded. This untenable situation is now finally being remedied, on the initiative of church caretaker Georg Münch and Günther Hofbeck, a member of the church administration. The work will begin after the Frohnberg Festival and is intended to protect the church from further water damage.

The cause of the flooding was defective and blocked drainage pipes in the gutters, as construction manager Markus Siegert from the general construction company Mickan explained. These pipes meant that rainwater could not drain away properly and instead pooled inside. In order to solve the problem, it quickly became clear that a complete replacement of the pipes was necessary.

Construction work in progress

In order to lay the new pipes, the site was carefully torn up with excavators. It turned out that the existing plans for the lines, including the power supply, were not reliable. In the past, these were often only repaired temporarily, which made the work more difficult. Nevertheless, the Kümmersbuch planner and construction manager, who personally looked after the construction site and even took on mowing work, has made good progress. The construction site could be completed in about ten days.

Another step is to use pipe cameras to check whether the northern gutter outlets are working properly. Interestingly, a power line was also laid through these spills, further complicating the situation.

The cost of the renovation work is still unclear as the work is still in progress. A preliminary estimate is around 20,000 euros. However, church caretaker Georg Münch is aware that the final costs could be either higher or lower. So the situation remains exciting as the work progresses.
