Tennis district championships: Mering triumphs despite the rain!
The tennis district championships took place in Mering at the weekend despite adverse weather conditions. Organized by Stefan Beier and Markus Deiml, supported by numerous helpers from TC Mering, the tournament was carried out almost exactly on schedule, even during a heavy rain shower on Saturday. While all games on Saturday were moved to the Meringer Tennis Hall and the TC Augsburg hall, the final day on Sunday took place under better conditions, despite a brief shower in the morning. Around 200 spectators watched the exciting duels, which brought together 125 participants from 13 clubs.
TC Mering had the largest number of players with 33 participants, followed by BC Adelzhausen with 17, TC Friedberg with 16 and TC Dasing with 15 participants. In the men's singles A there was a duel between Tobias Schröder (Friedberg) and Florian Deiml (Mering) in the final. Schröder won with a clear 6:1, 6:2. In the semi-finals, Schröder beat Ermis Tsiantaris from Mering, while Deiml defeated Jonas Gerstmayr (also Mering).
Exciting duels and successful players
In the women's A final of the district championships, Marlene Seidl (Mering) achieved an excellent victory against Carolin Gründl (Friedberg). Seidl triumphed 7:5, 6:3 in a thrilling match. TC Mering was the most successful team overall and collected six titles. TC Friedberg and TC Wittelsbach Aichach also remained successful, each winning two titles, while BC Adelzhausen and Mühlhausen each won one title.
Other notable results from the competitions include the award ceremonies in the age groups: Markus Nitzlader (TC Wittelsbach) secured the men's B title, while Daniel Spengler (Mering) won the men's C. Players from TC Mering were also successful in the women's categories. Christina Mertens won the women's C category, and Viktoria Andreschewski (Adelzhausen) won the women's B title. In the age groups, Andreas Ludwig and Robert Seidl, both from TC Mering, won in their respective categories.
Double competitions and team races
In the doubles competitions, Rajewski and Gerstmayr from Mering won men's A, while Nießl and Nitzlader triumphed in men's B. Gründl and Schön from Friedberg won the women's A category, while Kigle and Kick (Mühlhausen) won the women's B title. In the team race, BC Adelzhausen performed excellently and secured first place, followed by TC Dasing and TSV Mühlhausen.
The award ceremony, led by Mayor Florian Maier, marked the end of a successful weekend. Despite the challenges brought by the weather, the participants and organizers put together a remarkable sporting event.
