The Lichtenstern family donates 2,640 euros for Mering – a sign of remembrance!
On December 6, 2025, the family of the late market town councilor Vitus Lichtenstern collected an impressive sum of 2,640 euros for the Mering Foundation. In a remarkable move, the family asked that donations be made to the foundation in lieu of grave goods. This gesture reflects the family's deep connection to the common good and honors the legacy of Vitus Lichtenstern, who became known in Mering for numerous works of art.
The donation was ceremoniously presented by the family to Mayor Florian A. Mayer and to Christian Wenninger, a member of the foundation board. The mayor warmly thanked the family, which includes his wife Maria and children Renate, Lisa-Marie and Martin. During the meeting, those present discussed how the funds could be used in the spirit of Vitus Lichtenstern. Another meeting is planned for next year, which will serve to create a lasting memory of the late market town councilor.
Foundation for Mering and its goals
The Mering Foundation was founded under the umbrella of the “HAUS DER STIFTER – Stiftergemeinschaft der Stadtsparkasse Augsburg”. It serves as a community institution run by citizens for citizens with the aim of strengthening the common good and promoting regional projects. The initiator of the foundation was Hans-Dieter Kandler during his term as mayor. The market town council confirmed the foundation and decided on the name. The income from the foundation capital is used by the board of trustees to help the population of Mering and to increase the foundation capital in the long term.
The foundation strives to support current projects through donations and invites everyone to support the work. By the way, donation receipts are issued for donations of 301 euros or more, while for smaller amounts the bank statement is accepted as proof by the tax office.
The importance of donations and endowments
With their donation, the Lichtenstern family not only sent a sign of gratitude, but also encouraged other citizens to participate in the foundation. From a donation of 1,000 euros, supporters have the opportunity to take part in the foundation meeting and to actively help fill the foundation board. Such commitments are crucial to ensure the Mering Foundation's work is sustainable and to ensure support for local projects.
In the broader landscape of foundations in Germany, the “List of the Largest Foundations” shows that financial support for charitable projects is becoming increasingly important. The key figures listed there are sorted according to various criteria and are based on the foundations' business data, which underlines the importance and influence of these institutions.
In summary, it can be said that the Lichtenstern family's initiative is a wonderful gesture of solidarity with the community and sends an important signal of commitment to Mering. Further donations and endowments are welcome and will help to sustainably support the important work of the Mering Foundation. The success of such initiatives is reflected in a strengthened community and in the promotion of local creativity.
