The Lichtenstern family collects €2,640 for the foundation in Mering

In a moving gesture, the family of the late market town councilor Vitus Lichtenstern collected donations for the Mering Foundation instead of grave goods. A total of 2,640 euros were collected, an amount that symbolically reflects the date of birth of the deceased. This donation was recently presented to Mayor Florian A. Mayer and foundation board member Christian Wenninger. The family, consisting of wife Maria and children Renate, Lisa-Marie and Martin, received thanks from Mayor Mayer for their commitment.

During the handover of the donation, those present also discussed possible uses of the funds in the spirit of Vitus Lichtenstern. Another meeting to create a lasting memory of the late market town councilor is planned for next year. Vitus Lichtenstern leaves behind an artistic legacy in Mering, which includes works such as a wind chime in the roundabout and a book in front of the library.

Goals of the Mering Foundation

The Mering Foundation was established to serve the common good and support regional projects. It was brought into being during the term of office of Hans-Dieter Kandler as mayor and is managed under the umbrella of the “HAUS DER STIFTER – Stiftergemeinschaft der Stadtsparkasse Augsburg”. The foundation's goal is to strengthen the community in Mering and promote innovation by using the proceeds from the foundation's capital for the benefit of the population.

Donations to support the foundation are always welcome. For amounts up to and including 300 euros, the bank statement is accepted as proof, while donation receipts are issued from 301 euros. There are special opportunities for donations of an amount of 1,000 euros or more, as these enable donors to participate in the foundation meeting and influence the composition of the foundation board.

Foundation landscape in Germany

In the context of foundations, it is interesting that there are a large number of foundations in Germany that benefit citizens and projects in different ways. The Federal Association of German Foundations publishes an annual list of the largest foundations, which provides insights into the financially strongest private and public foundations. This data is voluntary and does not claim to be complete, but is based on the official business and annual reports of the foundations.

The “Stiftung für Mering” not only represents an important part of the local community, but is also an example of the diverse possibilities for giving in Germany, which help to actively promote social projects and the common good.

Further information about the donation options and the work of the Foundation for Mering can be found on the website Municipality of Mering, the Donor community and the Federal Association of German Foundations.
