Cannabis alarm at Mering train station: Police warn of violations!
In recent weeks there have been increasing complaints about the consumption of cannabis at Mering train station. The municipality of Mering therefore feels compelled to provide information about the current legal situation. According to Section 5 of the Consumer Cannabis Act (KCanG), which came into force on April 1, 2024, the consumption of cannabis near minors is prohibited. Since Mering train station is a public place and minors are often present, this regulation is particularly important. The Friedberg police station has already been informed of the incidents and is carrying out random checks to ensure compliance with these regulations.
In addition to this information, the police ask citizens to contact the Friedberg police station on 0821/323-1710 in the event of violations. The aim is to ensure a safe environment for all travelers at the station and appeals to all visitors to act responsibly.
Regulations and sanctions
In addition to local regulations, there are nationwide regulations regarding cannabis consumption. In road traffic, every participant must be able to drive. In December 2023, the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport set up a working group that developed recommendations for a THC limit in road traffic. The results of this working group led to a draft law that was adopted in the German Bundestag on June 6, 2024. Since August 22, 2024, a THC limit of 3.5 nanograms per milliliter of blood has been in effect.
If the THC content in the blood falls above this value, there is a risk of a fine of 500 euros. The rules are stricter, especially for novice drivers and those who mix alcohol with alcohol: a fine of 1,000 euros and a driving ban of one month can be imposed. A special ban on cannabis applies during the two-year probationary period for driving licenses and for drivers under the age of 21.
Education and responsibility
The effects of cannabis consumption on road safety should not be underestimated. The ADAC emphasizes that cannabis consumption can impair concentration, attention and reaction time. That's why they recommend not driving under the influence of cannabis. In order to raise awareness of the dangers of consumption, the ADAC is calling for intensive educational discussions about the associated risks of accidents. Experts are also discussing a possible increase in the THC limit, as the current value of 3.5 nanograms is considered relevant to road safety.
Overall, it is important that citizens inform themselves about the legal situation and the potential consequences of cannabis consumption. In Germany, adults are allowed to possess up to 25 grams of cannabis and grow up to three plants, although sales in specialist shops are currently not possible. Municipalities in Bavaria have the option of prohibiting consumption in certain areas, which has already been implemented using the example of folk festivals and beer gardens. This ensures that the responsible use of cannabis remains a focus.
The local authorities and the police department are actively committed to safety at Mering train station and appeal to all visitors to adhere to the existing regulations.
