Candlelight shopping in Mering: A complete success despite criticism!

Candlelight shopping in Mering was very popular on December 4th, 2025. Many visitors took the opportunity to buy new glasses and Christmas presents. The rush to the shops began at 5 p.m. and was organized by the Mering Aktuell business association under the direction of market manager Lisa Leiter. A new concept that was implemented in the shops and restaurants ensured that the offers were presented locally.

The first mayor Florian Mayer visited numerous shops and had discussions with business people and customers. The event offered a varied program, including craft activities for children, a listening challenge, and discounts of between 20 and 40 percent. Live bands entertained guests throughout the evening.

Attractions and offers

The attractions that made up Candlelight Shopping took place exclusively in the participating stores, which created a new, cozy atmosphere. However, some visitors criticized the lack of outdoor food stalls. The Reich butcher shop, which would have liked to offer bratwursts, was unable to take part in the new concept.

One of the highlights of the event was a craft activity at Betten Froese, where children were able to make tea lights. Meanwhile, the parents had the opportunity to look around the shop, which offered winter textiles. Velvet Home Immobilien offered children the opportunity to take part in a painting activity and welcomed the guests with a welcome champagne.

Particular attention was paid to the Mering world shop, which presented mantras and stories for well-being. Visitors had a lot of fun at the Platzbecker bookstore, which was played by the popular band “Last Contact”. Iffland Hören also organized a listening challenge with a meal voucher as the main prize.

Children's program and festivities

Over 60 children took part in a story by the Bremen Town Musicians, followed by hot dogs and drinks. The Optik Uhren Schmuck Spengler celebrated its 40th anniversary with special attractions and discounts, while “The Glasses Shop” offered fresh popcorn and a suitcase weight estimation competition.

Future events will be reassessed by Mering Aktuell in order to optimize the concept for 2026. Overall, business people were happy with sales, although some aspects, such as the outdoor food stalls, were seen as needing improvement.

In summary, it can be said that Candlelight Shopping in Mering once again attracted numerous visitors this year and impressed with a creative and family-friendly program that both supported retail and created a festive atmosphere. The motto of the evening, “Don’t leave, buy locally!”, remained in the minds of the participants.
