Lifesaver wanted: stem cell donation for blood cancer patients in Baar

The search for lifesavers for patients with blood cancer is in full swing. Blood cancer, a serious disease, can affect people of all ages and from all walks of life. For many affected people, a stem cell transplant is often the only way to survive. Unfortunately, many patients have difficulty finding a suitable donor. In the municipality of Baar, 314 people have already registered, and five of them have already helped a patient, giving them a new chance at life. A big thank you to everyone who gets involved!

In order to further promote registration, the municipality of Baar has launched a special campaign in collaboration with the DKMS (German Bone Marrow Donor File). This takes place as part of the celebrations for the community's 30th anniversary of independence. The event will take place on Sunday, September 8th, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Kirchstadl of the Schloßbrauerei Unterbaar.

How to help

Registering as a stem cell donor is simple and straightforward. Those interested simply need to have a cheek swab taken to determine their tissue characteristics. The requirements are that participants must be between 17 and 55 years old. However, there is no age limit for financial assistance, so anyone can help, regardless of age.

The costs for registration are 50 euros, which must be borne by the DKMS. This sum is crucial to expand the database of potential donors and thus increase the chances for patients of finding a suitable donor. If you need more information, you can view the official documents on the Baar municipality website.
