The provision of fast internet is of great importance for companies and private citizens. Fiber optic expansion has now begun in Weiden. A symbolic groundbreaking ceremony by the mayorJens Meyerand head of the building departmentAlkmar Zengermarks the starting signal for the company Plusnet. This is continuing to expand the fiber optic network within the city on its own.
Expansion area and goals
The expansion area extends along Bahnhofsstrasse over Regensburger Strasse. It opens up the commercial areas between Bauscherstrasse and Moosbürger Strasse as well as along Nikolaus-Otto-Strasse. Starting next year, up to 20 kilometers of fiber optic cable will be laid. This will provide up to 350 companies and 650 households with Gigaspeed Internet.

MayorJens Meyerexpresses himself positively about the fiber optic expansion: "Fast Internet is an important location factor these days - especially for the many companies here in Weiden. But fast Internet is also becoming more and more important for the citizens. It is all the more pleasing that the company Plusnet is now actively pushing forward the fiber optic expansion in the city, so that our city will continue to be well positioned digitally in the future."
