Magic lights and guided tours: Experience European cultural heritage in Waldsassen!

Mark the days in your calendar: From October 17th to 19th, 2024, the Schwanenwiese park will be the scene of a special event. Here, European cultural heritage is celebrated in a festive setting and promises to be an unforgettable experience.

The focus of the celebrations is the awarding of the European Cultural Heritage Seal to the impressive Cistercian monastery landscapes. To mark this event, a spectacular light show will be presented on a large water screen that will amaze visitors.

Guided tours through the monastery landscape

In addition to the light show, guests can take part in exciting guided tours that explain the history and beauty of the monastery landscapes. Here are the details about the tours:

  • Donnerstag, 17. Oktober 2024, 15:00 Uhr: (Fast) entlang der Klostermauer – Klosterlandschaft in der Klosterstadt, geleitet von Michaela Müller. Die Tour dauert etwa 2 Stunden und umfasst eine Wegstrecke von ca. 2,5 km.
  • Freitag, 18. Oktober 2024, 15:00 Uhr: In der Klosterstadt Klosterlandschaft erleben, unter der Leitung von Gabriele Achmann. Diese Führung dauert ebenfalls ca. 2 Stunden und führt über eine Strecke von etwa 1,5 km.
  • Samstag, 19. Oktober 2024, 13:30 Uhr: Klosterlandschaftsführung mit barocken Highlights, angeleitet von Michael Rückl. Diese ausführliche Tour dauert ca. 4 Stunden und 30 Minuten und erstreckt sich über ca. 10 km.

The meeting point for all tours is at the Diepoldbrunnen in front of the monastery basilica. Interested parties should register by October 11, 2024 by email to martina.zanner@ikomstiftland.de or by telephone on 09632 9247349.

For those who would like to learn more about the monastery landscapes, the film “Landscapes of the Cistercians – Traces in Europe (2023)” will be shown in the nearby Kunsthaus. This film offers an insight into the highlights of other project partners in around 45 minutes and can only be seen on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
