850 years of Stulln: Historical lecture about the Counts of Holnstein

The community of Stulln is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: 850 years of existence. To properly honor this event, an exciting historical lecture will take place in the Stulln elementary school on October 12th at 6 p.m.

The lecture entitled “The Counts of Holnstein, Napoleon and Stulln” will be given by Martin Irl, an expert from the Holnstein Archive in Schwarzenfeld. Irl will take listeners on a captivating journey through the history of the von Holnstein family, which played a significant role in Bavarian history. This family was not only governor, but also president, representing the Bavarian ruling family in the Upper Palatinate.

A look into history

The Counts of Holnstein were involved in many important events in Bavarian history. These include the effects of the French Revolution of 1789 and the War of the First Coalition, in which the Imperial Austrian forces and French troops faced off in the region in August 1796. The founding of the empire in 1871 and the fate of King Ludwig II also fall into this eventful time. Irl will show how the family exercised the manor and patronage in Schwarzenfeld with skill and care over many years.

Another interesting aspect of the lecture will be the administration of the land interest charges for the Stulln branch church, which also fell under the remit of the “Royal Bavarian Count von Holnstein Foundation Administration Schwarzenfeld”. The listeners can look forward to an intensive journey through time that not only takes up historical facts, but also current references.
