Discover Schwandorf's musical heritage: guided tour with dumplings

A special city tour is offered in Schwandorf that deals with the life and work of the famous composer Konrad Max Kunz. He was born in the city on April 29, 1812 and is known for the melody of the Bavarian anthem, which was written over 160 years ago. The tour is entitled “Knödel, Kunz & Kirche” and will take place on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

The event not only highlights Kunz's youth in Schwandorf, but also his deep connections to the Catholic Church. Kunz originally wanted to become a priest, which shaped his musical career and his relationship with religion. Participants can look forward to an interesting narrative about his life, which also includes his musical achievements.

A feast for the senses

Music played a central role in Konrad Max Kunz's life. He was choir director at the Royal Court and National Theater in Munich and is considered one of the most important representatives of the choir and singing movement of the 19th century. The tour ends with a tasty lunch at Gasthof Baier, where guests can enjoy traditional Bavarian dumplings. This culinary connection is not a coincidence, as in Bavaria church and inn are often closely linked. This is how many songs were created that revolve around food, such as the popular “Dumpling Song”.

The participants meet at 11:00 a.m. at the tourist office at Kirchengasse 1 in Schwandorf. The participation fee is 30.00 euros per person, including lunch at the Gasthof Baier. Registration is required to take part in this unique event.
