Participate for more cohesion: research project in Bavaria's villages
An exciting research project is being launched in rural regions of Bavaria that focuses on social cohesion. The Nuremberg University of Technology has set itself the goal of finding out by 2026 how people live together in these areas and what ideas citizens have to strengthen this cohesion. This homeland project is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Homeland.
The project examines what social cohesion actually means. It's about everyday interaction, the feeling of being part of a community and the questions that affect the common good. In order to obtain a comprehensive picture, three surveys and four in-depth projects will be carried out. People from different age groups and backgrounds have their say, including both long-time residents and newcomers from villages and small towns.
Participation and process
All citizens living in rural areas are invited to participate in this project. Participation in the surveys can be done conveniently online via the project website. For the in-depth projects, the team will specifically address people and organizations throughout Bavaria. The first survey to focus on local social relationships took place last year and the results are available on the website. The next survey, which will look at connectedness in communities, starts on September 14th and runs until October 14th, 2024.
Why should you take part in this project? The insights gained from the surveys are intended to help both citizens and politicians to better understand and further develop social cohesion in rural regions. The results will be continuously published on the project website so that everyone interested has the opportunity to find out about the progress. The results report of the first survey as well as a brochure about support for seniors through neighborhood help can already be viewed online.
The project management is in the hands of Prof. Dr. Sabine Fromm from the Nuremberg University of Technology. If you have any questions or would like further information, you can contact us directly by email: heimatprojekt-bayern@th-nuernberg.de.
The homeland project is a result of the Heimat.Bayern future dialogue and part of the homeland strategy “Offensive.Heimat.Bayern 2025”. It offers a valuable opportunity to hear the voices of people in rural areas and collect their ideas for strengthening social cohesion.
