Maxhütte-Haidhof: Fourth graders experience the construction yard up close
The Maximilian primary school in Maxhütte-Haidhof recently organized an exciting excursion that gave fourth grade students the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at the municipal building yard. For many children it was an exciting experience that they will not soon forget.
The students had the opportunity to see an impressive mowing vehicle up close. This large vehicle, which is normally used to maintain green spaces, was brought in especially for the classes. The children were thrilled to see the vehicle in action and there were many curious questions that they asked the construction yard staff.
Insights into the work of the construction yard
Building yard manager Thomas Heider and the driver team leader, Stefan Faltermeier, answered questions from the students. They explained to the children how important the work of the public works department is for the city, especially in relation to the maintenance of streets, playgrounds and green spaces. Topics such as waste separation and diversion were also addressed, giving students a better understanding of how their community works.
Additionally, the fourth graders had the opportunity to explore preparations for the upcoming Christmas season. They were able to view the stage and the Christmas booths that are currently being set up. These insights into the preparations for the festive season created additional anticipation for the children.
Overall, the visit to the construction yard was an educational experience that not only gave the students an understanding of how the city works, but also raised their awareness of the importance of public infrastructure. Such trips encourage children's interest in their surroundings and strengthen a sense of community.
