Around 10 million people die of cancer every year worldwide, with around 230,000 people affected in Germany. On the occasion of World Cancer Day, which will be celebrated on February 4, 2026, the Social Insurance for Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture (SVLFG) is reminding people of the importance of regular cancer screenings. Early diagnosis can be crucial for the chances of recovery from diseases such as breast, colon, skin and cervical cancer as well as prostate cancer.
The SVLFG covers the costs for a large number of preventive examinations. These include:

- Brustkrebs: Frauen ab 30 Jahren
- Hautkrebs-Screening: Frauen und Männer ab 35 Jahren (teilweise Kostenübernahme vor 35)

- Mammographie-Screening: Frauen zwischen 50 und 75 Jahren
- Darmspiegelung: Frauen und Männer ab 50 Jahren (alle 10 Jahre)
- Alternativ: Immunologischer Test auf occultes Blut im Stuhl für Frauen und Männer ab 50 Jahren (alle 2 Jahre)
Prevention and support
In addition to cancer screenings, SVLFG offers a disease management program for breast cancer patients. Promoting a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, avoiding nicotine and moderate alcohol consumption can also help prevent cancer.
The SVLFG has also introduced two bonus programs to reward health-conscious behavior. Patients receive a cash bonus for regularly taking up prevention courses as well as for health examinations, early detection examinations, vaccinations and child examinations.
