Santa Claus speed camera ensures safe Advent trips in Wolfsegg!

At the beginning of December, the Upper Palatinate Municipal Traffic Safety Association (ZV KVS Oberpfalz) is launching the “Santa Claus Speed Camera” Advent campaign. This campaign is not only intended to spread a festive mood, but also to raise awareness of the issue of road safety in a humorous way. According to wolfsegg.de, the Santa Claus speed camera will tour through the region in 2025, stopping at a total of three stations. The first station is in the municipality of Wolfsegg in the Regensburg district.

The Santa Claus Speed Camera campaign combines the need to respect speed limits with a festive flair. A semi-stationary speed measuring system called “Beppi” is used, but it does not work in active measuring mode. This means that no speeding violations will be recorded. The other locations on the tour will remain a surprise until then, which increases anticipation for the upcoming activities.

Background of the action

The ZV KVS Oberpfalz was founded in November 2014 and now monitors over 160 cities, municipalities and administrative communities in the region. The main aim of the association is to support municipalities in rural areas in matters of road safety, mobility and order. This is particularly important against the background of increasing road safety, one of the Federal Government's central concerns. According to bmv.de, 2,770 people died in road traffic in 2024, which provides a clear impetus to improve road safety.

In order to achieve the goal of "Vision Zero" - zero deaths in road traffic - the federal government is implementing various measures to reduce traffic deaths by 40 percent by 2030. This commitment is also reflected in the "Pact for Road Safety" established in 2021, which promotes close cooperation between the federal government, states and municipalities. Innovative approaches to improving traffic safety, such as the use of automated and autonomous driving technologies, are the focus of the current strategy.

Commitment to road safety

The road safety program is regularly updated and reviewed in order to be able to respond to current challenges. The priorities include promoting driver assistance systems and improving road infrastructure. These initiatives demonstrate a commitment to also helping cyclists through specific programs.

The Santa Claus Speed Camera campaign is a creative and festive contribution to these efforts to encourage people to be safer on the roads and strengthen social cohesion during the Christmas season. Further information about the campaign can be found on the ZV KVS website at zv-kvs.de.
