Regensburg Climate Prize 2026: Sinzinger climate hero awarded!

On January 7, 2026, the Regensburg Climate Prize 2026 was awarded in a formal ceremony. This award recognizes outstanding “climate-friendly behavior and commitment” in the community of Sinzing. This year, Thomas Bendl was pleased to receive the prize, which was awarded together with the “Tu was Sinzing” initiative. First Mayor Martin Brix congratulated the award winners and emphasized the importance of climate protection in the region.

Thomas Bendl has been actively involved in the Energy and Raw Materials working group of Agenda 21 in Sinzing since 2005. In this role, he helped organize numerous campaigns and events for the working group and the community. His goal is to make climate protection tangible and implementable for people in everyday life. Since July 2012, he has also been contributing to raising awareness about saving energy and avoiding CO₂ with a regular energy-saving tip in the municipality's newsletter.

Special commitment

The jury that nominated the award winners particularly praised Bendl's commitment as effective and low-threshold. The Regensburg Climate Prize comes with prize money of 250 euros, which serves as an incentive for further commitment to climate protection. The award is intended not only to recognize Bendl's individual commitment, but also to encourage others to take similar steps.

The “Tu was Sinzing” initiative is another important part of the award. It promotes awareness of climate issues in the community and calls on all citizens to actively help. The award of the Regensburg Climate Prize is therefore not only a recognition of individuals, but also a sign of collective action.

Overall, the awarding of the Regensburg Climate Prize shows how important local commitment to climate protection is and provides impetus for further activities in Sinzing and the surrounding area. The voluntary commitment of citizens is crucial for a sustainable future and successfully dealing with the challenges of climate change.
