Honors for green talents: Garden competition 2024 celebrated in Wiesent
A special event took place in the Nepal Himalaya Park in Wiesent on October 5, 2024, celebrating the successes of the 2024 gardening year. The district administrator and chairwoman of the Regensburg district association for horticulture and land conservation, Tanja Schweiger, presented the awards to the winners of this year's design competition. These honors are not only recognition for the creative gardeners, but also a sign of the importance of garden culture in the region.
Among the award winners were members of the fruit and horticultural clubs from the municipality of Sinzing, who were delighted with their awards. The achievements of Jürgen Meller, Johanna Birner and Theresia Laszlo from OGV Viehhausen, who were honored for their outstanding garden design, were particularly highlighted. The married couple Kristina and Johannes Stockbauer and Anita Häring from OGV Eilsbrunn also received recognition for their creative contributions. Franz Frankenberger, Georg Werner and Ulrike Schön were honored by the OGV Sinzing.
Focus on ecological design
When evaluating the gardens, particular attention was paid to ecological management. The jury placed emphasis on a nature-loving and climate-friendly design that creates habitats for insects and other small creatures. Another important aspect was the diversity in the kitchen garden, which includes a wide range of fruits and vegetables. This approach shows how important it is to include nature in garden design while contributing to biodiversity.
Another highlight of the event was the honoring of Marita Pohl, the first chairwoman of the OGV Eilsbrunn. She received her certificate and ID card from District Administrator Tanja Schweiger for completing her training as a garden care worker. This underlines the importance of continuing education and involvement in gardening.
The community of Sinzing warmly congratulates all award winners on their awards. Their commitment and creativity help to beautify the townscape and positively represent the community beyond its borders. A big thank you for the commitment that goes into designing the front gardens and courtyards!
