Digital moving made easy: Sinzing is introducing online residency registration!

The municipality of Sinzing has introduced a new online service for electronic residence registration (eWA), which is intended to save citizens considerable time and effort. An average of more than 650 moves per year make this service particularly relevant. With the eWA, residence registrations and address changes can be carried out conveniently from home, without the need to visit the town hall. This service was developed as part of the “one-for-all principle” (EfA) and is accessible via an external online portal. The development took place in collaboration with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community, which underlines the nationwide availability of the service. [Sinzing.de] reports that the online service is also supported by the Federal Republic of Germany and is therefore available to communities throughout Germany.

A key advantage of the new service is the elimination of long journeys to the town hall and waiting times at the citizens' office. This relieves the burden on both citizens and the administration. The eWA also allows you to autonomously change your place of residence on your ID card, passport and eID card, which significantly simplifies the entire process.

Requirements and process of the eWA

In order to use the service, certain requirements are necessary. Users need a user account with an online ID (Federal ID), a valid ID card or an eID card with online ID function and a self-selected online PIN. You also need an NFC-enabled smartphone or a PC with a USB card reader. In addition, the federal government's ID card app must be downloaded and a housing provider confirmation from the landlord must be available.

The electronic residence registration process takes place in four simple steps:

  1. Angaben zur neuen Wohnung machen.
  2. Bei Mietwohnungen eine Wohnungsgeberbestätigung hochladen.

Additional information and contact

The registration of the new place of residence must be done within 14 days of the move. The status remains unaffected for existing secondary apartments. It is important to note that in order to register additional apartments or change the housing status, contact with the registration authority is required.

In addition, a forgery-proof digital registration confirmation is provided and the address details on the ID card are updated via the ID app. New address labels for ID cards or passports will be sent by post.
