Traffic restrictions on the A 93: renovation work from August 2024

From August 8, 2024, there will be traffic restrictions on the A 93 between Regensburg-Süd and Bad Abbach. The reason for these measures is the renewal of the drainage systems in the median, which is being carried out as part of a comprehensive road renewal. This work is necessary because the motorway, which opened in 1984, is now showing damage that requires fundamental repairs.

The first steps on the construction site begin with the dismantling of the traffic route between Bad Abbach and the Saalhaupt triangle, which starts on August 14, 2024. During construction work, traffic will be diverted to two narrowed lanes in both directions. Drivers in the direction of Munich must be prepared for a speed limit of 80 km/h, while in the direction of Regensburg the speed is reduced to 60 km/h. These measures are necessary to ensure the safety of road users during construction work.

Traffic routing and bypasses

The motorway will remain open throughout the work and it is recommended not to bypass the A93. The entrances and exits at the Regensburg-Süd and Bad Abbach junctions also remain accessible. The Südbayern Autobahn points out that bypasses via alternative routes are often not faster and can lead to increased traffic on less suitable roads.

However, it is important to note that short-term closures cannot be ruled out. In the past there have been unforeseen closures due to acute road damage. These could also occur in 2024 for the Regensburg direction, as the old concrete roadway will not be replaced by a new asphalt surface until 2025.

In addition to the work on the roadway, three overpass structures over the A 93 are also being renovated. These renovation measures are expected to take several weeks and there may be temporary restrictions on the connecting roads. However, no full closures are planned.
