Start of new well drilling: Regenstauf secures drinking water!

On December 4, 2025, test drilling to develop a new groundwater well for the public water supply in Regenstauf will begin in the Hahnenberg area. The Regenstauf waterworks company made this step necessary because the Free State of Bavaria imposes restrictions on the use of deep groundwater. At the moment, the deep groundwater from the Unterhub well is mixed with water from the Diesenbach well to ensure constant drinking water quality.

The aim of the test drilling is to ensure high-quality drinking water for the region east of the motorway. The Regensburg district office granted water law permission for the drilling at the end of September. The contract for the work went to the company Tafelmeier Tiefbrunnen-Bau GmbH from Taufkirchen/Vils, which will drill to a depth of around 130 meters. The costs for this drilling amount to around 300,000 euros plus sales tax.

Technical details of the test drilling

The well is being drilled south of the Hahnenberg, near the Regenstauf junction on the A 93 motorway. The work is being supervised by the expert office Anders & Raum from Velden. If the test drilling is successful, the site is planned to be expanded into a well for the Regenstauf water supply. This measure would ideally complement the waterworks' facilities, especially due to the proximity to the Mühlholz elevated tank.

Mayor Josef Schindler has already expressed his thanks to the property owners and Autobahn GmbH for their support in this important project. Groundwater wells are typically artificial water sources that use stored water in the ground. They not only benefit the drinking water supply, but also the watering of plants and the filling of pools.

Legal aspects and planning

Before deciding on a groundwater well, it is essential to examine different types of wells and the associated legal requirements. Choosing the right type of well depends on the nature of the soil, the depth of the groundwater and the intended use. The most common types of wells are ram wells, domestic waterworks drilled wells and deep wells, each of which has different characteristics.

The legal requirements vary depending on the region, although a water permit from the lower water authority is usually required. If the well is to be used to supply drinking water, additional requirements from the health department must be observed. A professional analysis of the soil condition is essential to select suitable drilling methods and to ensure that sufficient groundwater of the required quality is available.

Overall, the test drilling at Hahnenberg is an important step towards ensuring water supply in the Regenstauf supply area and an example of how communities can meet the challenges of water provision legally and technically. Comprehensive planning and consideration of legal framework conditions are crucial for the success of such projects.
