Regensburg's organic waste bins: Cleaning starts on September 9th, 2024

An important step towards cleanliness and hygiene is being taken in Regensburg: The city has launched a regular cleaning service for organic waste bins. The next cleaning campaign will start from September 9, 2024, and citizens can look forward to freshly cleaned bins.

The organic waste bins are cleaned by a special vehicle after the weekly emptying. An environmentally friendly method is used: the bins are cleaned with high-pressure water without using chemical cleaning agents. This washing process is quick and efficient, as two tons can be cleaned in just 35 seconds. It is possible to clean up to 250 organic tons per water tank, which covers a significant amount of waste containers.

Important information for residents

There are some important tips to keep in mind, especially for residents of residential complexes. There may be delays between regular emptying and subsequent cleaning. It is therefore recommended to leave the organic waste bins standing after they have been emptied so that they can be cleaned.

It is important to know that organic waste bins that are not made available for cleaning in time or are brought back onto the property too early cannot be cleaned afterwards. This could result in the bins not achieving the desired level of cleanliness.

The city of Regensburg launched this cleaning campaign to ensure that the organic waste bins remain not only functional but also attractive. Regular emptying and cleaning of the organic waste bins helps ensure that valuable products such as methane gas and fertilizer can be obtained from the collected organic waste. This not only protects the environment, but also contributes to sustainable waste management.
