New system in Pettendorf: Biometric photographs directly on site!

A new recording system has recently been made available in the residents' registration and passport office in the municipality of Pettendorf, which revolutionizes digital photographic recording. The system, known as PointID®, went live in September 2025 and offers citizens the opportunity to have their biometric photos taken directly at the authority when they apply for an identification document. This innovative solution simplifies the process and increases efficiency when submitting applications.

To use this new service, an additional fee of 6.00 euros will be charged on top of the regular document fees. This investment could prove beneficial as it means citizens do not have to go to external photo service providers to have their photographs taken. However, the option still remains to have photographs taken by external photo service providers, who then transmit them digitally to the authority via the cloud.

Switch to digital photographs

The switch to digital photographs brings with it significant changes. Mobile and paper-based passport photos are no longer accepted for document applications. Instead, the photographs must be taken either directly at the authority or via a photo service provider. Photo service providers provide citizens with a QR code that serves as a printout and enables the images to be easily transferred to the authorities.

These adjustments to the procedure are part of a broader trend towards digital services in the public sector. The decision by the municipality of Pettendorf to introduce digital photo capture follows the aim of modernizing administrative processes and offering citizens a modern way of dealing with official requirements. The introduction of PointID® is a further step towards an increasingly paperless and efficient administration that takes into account the needs of citizens.
