Nittendorf railway bridge: major renovation from 2026 for 2.25 million euros!
The railway bridge in Nittendorf, which was built in 1979, is facing extensive renovation, which will be carried out in 2026. The decision to renovate follows the results of the last bridge tests, which confirmed the poor overall condition of the structure. This measure is part of a comprehensive infrastructure project launched by the federal government. According to the municipality of Nittendorf, the Nuremberg-Regensburg railway line will be closed in the first half of 2026, which will allow the renovation work to be carried out effectively. The construction contract for the work was awarded to Fahrner Bauunternehmen GmbH from Mallersdorf.
The planned work includes not only the renovation of the railway bridge itself, but also the repair of the pavement of the R 31 district road in the section from the bridge to the beginning of the town of Nittendorf. In addition, a barrier-free expansion of two existing bus stops is being undertaken. The junction with state road 2660, formerly B 8, will also be adjusted. The total costs for this construction project amount to around 2.25 million euros, with 1.7 million euros earmarked for the renovation of the railway bridge and 550,000 euros for the repair of the district road and the additional bus stops. Completion of the work is scheduled for October 2026, as [Nittendorf] reports.
Nationwide infrastructure investments
Deutsche Bahn has already announced that it will completely renovate over 40 heavily used routes, including prominent connections such as the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim and the Hamburg-Berlin route. These general renovations are scheduled to be completed by the mid-2030s. Minister Schnieder also announced a new rail strategy, which is to be presented by late summer and will also include new buildings. However, travelers must expect construction sites and restrictions, while the punctuality and reliability of rail transport should be improved in the long term.
Another aspect of the investments is the modernization of around 100 train stations into “train stations of the future” this year. This modernization program includes a uniform design, improved train information, route guidance as well as modern equipment and accessibility. According to Deutsche Bahn, 40 stations have already been converted, which is part of the S3 renovation program.
