Neutraubling gets a breath of fresh air: two new city councilors sworn in!
At a ceremonial meeting on September 29, 2025 in the Neutraublingen town hall, two new city councilors were sworn in. Christian Matz from the CSU and Thomas Jäger from the Free Voters are following in the footsteps of their predecessors Wolfgang Kessner and Andrea Fenchel, who both left the committee. Mayor Harald Stadler congratulated the newcomers and wished them much success in their future tasks.
The two new members bring a breath of fresh air to the city council, which should enter a new rhythm before the upcoming local elections. Matz takes over the mandate of the late Wolfgang Kessner, while Jäger replaces Andrea Fenchel, who voluntarily resigned from the city council on July 31, 2025. Both will also take over the seats in the committees that their predecessors were entitled to, which should ensure a seamless continuation of the work in the city council.
Transfer of offices
With the swearing in of Matz and Jäger, an important step towards stability and continuity in local politics is being taken. It is also necessary to change the rules of procedure for the city council. Another important point is the election of Georg Wilfling as deputy parliamentary group leader of the CSU, who takes over from Kessner.
These developments are not only important for Neutraubling, but also reflect a broader trend in local politics in Germany. In the country's approximately 11,000 municipalities, which are determined by city, community and district councils, mostly volunteer local politicians work. They are responsible for important decisions that directly affect the lives of citizens. This includes, among other things, the construction of infrastructure such as sports fields or housing estates, as well as the administration of municipal tasks, such as passport applications or vehicle registrations.
The local level is crucial for the political participation of citizens. In many cases, 16-year-olds are allowed to take part in local elections, which enables early access to political participation. The municipalities are financed through shares of federally levied taxes and their own tax collections, which supports the municipalities' financial independence and ability to act.
The Neutraubling city council is therefore faced with new challenges and opportunities. The integration of the new members could be crucial for the future direction and decisions of the coming meetings.
