Go to school safely with high-visibility vests: Kallmünz protects first graders
The summer holidays are over and for many children a new phase of life begins: school. This transition is exciting and challenging, especially for the first graders, who are now referred to as ABC shooters. To ensure that the little ones are clearly visible, the Kallmünz school association has launched an important initiative.
When school starts, the new students receive high-visibility vests that are intended to increase their visibility in traffic. This measure is particularly important as the days are getting shorter and visibility is often poor in the coming months. Simone Reinhardt, the managing director of the Upper Palatinate Municipal Traffic Safety Association, presented some alarming figures: "Children in dark clothing can hardly be seen by drivers after just 25 meters. However, if they wear light-colored clothing, they are visible up to 40 meters, and with reflective clothing even up to 150 meters."
Important safety measures
The high-visibility vests are not just a fashion accessory, but also a crucial safety factor. They help to significantly reduce the risk of accidents for the youngest road users. In order to further ensure the safety of students, the school association appeals to all road users to be particularly vigilant. "Over half of accidents on the way to school happen in the dark season between October and March. It is therefore important that drivers look ahead and drive at an appropriate speed," emphasizes Reinhardt.
The school association's initiative shows how important it is to prioritize children's safety on the roads. The new high-visibility vests and the appeal to drivers are a step in the right direction to get ABC shooters safely to school and back home. Those responsible wish all road users a safe journey and an accident-free route to school.
