Citizens shape the future: Workshops on ISEK and GEK in Bernhardswald
The community of Bernhardswald has set out to actively shape the future of its towns. Since autumn 2023, those responsible have been working with the planning office PLANWERK Stadtentwicklung from Nuremberg on two important concepts that will determine the development of the community for the coming years. These concepts, the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) and the Community Development Concept (GEK), aim to promote both the main town and the surrounding districts and to create new funding opportunities.
A kick-off event took place in October 2023, which attracted many citizens. This first meeting marked the start of online participation where residents could contribute their ideas and opinions. The response was great and the digital platform was actively used to collect and discuss suggestions.
Planned workshops in September and October
In April and May of this year, walks were organized in the various districts, during which residents could explore the local conditions. Public spaces, traffic areas and empty buildings were visited to collect ideas for improvements. These initial suggestions will now be further developed in two upcoming workshops.
The first workshop will take place on September 16, 2024 in the auditorium of the elementary school in Pettenreuth. From 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. there will be a discussion about transport connections in the districts. Questions such as accessibility of the main town and possible new offers, such as a sharing system, are on the agenda. Afterwards, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., there will be a discussion in the meeting room of the town hall in Bernhardswald about the design of the town hall square and the improvement of cycle and pedestrian paths.
On October 1, 2024, another workshop will be held at the Gasthof zur Post in Kürn. Here, citizens can work with representatives from the Office for Rural Development to consider how the inn can be converted into a club and community center. It will be discussed which rooms are needed and how the people of Kürn can work together to implement the project.
Anyone interested is warmly invited to take part in these workshops and contribute their ideas. The community is looking forward to active participation and valuable suggestions from citizens.
