Bavaria in focus: Citizen survey strengthens social cohesion in villages!

As part of the research project “Home – more than a feeling” at the Nuremberg Georg Simon Ohm University of Technology, social cohesion in rural regions of Bavaria will be examined until 2026. This pioneering project, which is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Community, aims to promote social interaction, a sense of belonging and the common good.

The project involves carrying out a total of three surveys and four in-depth projects. A broad range of participants is invited to take part in these surveys. Citizens from villages, small towns, long-time residents and newcomers are called upon to contribute their experiences and perspectives. All citizens in rural areas from municipalities that comply with the Bavarian State Development Plan (LEP) are eligible to participate.

Current survey on orientation towards the common good

The first and second surveys, which focused on social relationships and residential attachment, have already been completed. The third survey on the topic of orientation towards the common good and commitment is currently taking place from September 17th to October 17th, 2025. This examines how citizens in rural regions experience social cohesion and what ideas they have for strengthening this cohesion.

The results of the first two surveys and the in-depth projects can be viewed on the official project website. The project management is the responsibility of Prof. Dr. Sabine Fromm from the Nuremberg Georg Simon Ohm Technical University. Interested citizens can contact the e-mail address heimatprojekt-bayern@th-nuernberg.de for further information.

Social cohesion in focus

The project places particular emphasis on concrete local relationships and the feeling of belonging to the community. Social cohesion is therefore not only viewed as an abstract concept, but also as a practical challenge that should be addressed together with the citizens of the region. For anyone who would like to find out more about the background and goals of the project, the website of heimatprojekt-bayern.de offers comprehensive information.

In addition, the website of sinzing.de provides the opportunity to explore and actively discuss further aspects of the project.
